CST: The Experience
The experience of receiving craniosacral therapy can be profoundly relaxing. CST is an effective treatment for many problems including headaches, TMJ, back pain, and anxiety.
The therapist applies gentle pressure to relieve tension and restrictions within the central nervous system (CNS) and restore balance.
Craniosacral System
This gentle hands-on technique explores the physiologic movement within the craniosacral system. This system includes the soft tissue wrappings that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord. These important neural tissues are bathed in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), which pulses rhythmically through the system.
The Cranial Rhythm
While the cranial rhythm is subtle, it is key to our health and well being. Just as air moves into and out of our lungs, and blood moves through our vascular system, the movement of the CSF helps to nourish and connect the brain, and spinal cord. The cranial bones have the ability to make subtle movements and respond to the pulsing of the CSF. When the bones of the skull and spinal column are well aligned and mobile, the craniosacral system “breathes.”
